Pneumococcal Vaccination in National Childhood Immunisation Programme

Young Singaporean children will soon be protected against a deadly bacterial disease (the pneumococcal disease), which kills a million children globally each year (WHO).

It was announced by Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan in Parliament yesterday to include protection against such deadly infection as part of Singapore’s childhood immunization programme. However, no details as yet on the implementation timeline. The vaccination will not come free, but parents can utilize their Medisave for this. For an estimate of the cost, one can refer to this 2007 Parliamentary Q&A reply by MOH.

For more info on typical vaccinations for children, reference can be made here.
