Use of Medisave for Pneumococcal Vaccination

From 1st November 2009, Medisave can be used to pay for pneumococcal vaccination of children.

A withdrawal limit of $300 per Medisave account per year will be imposed. No co-payment or deductible is required.

To recap, pneumococcal disease is a group of illnesses caused by the streptococcus pneumonia bacteria. These bacteria may cause infection in organs such as the brain resulting in hearing loss, learning disabilities, brain damage, paralysis and sometimes even death. Young children are especially susceptible due to their not-fully developed immune system.

Parents can also use their Baby Bonus cash gift and/or savings in their Child Development Accounts (CDA) to pay for all vaccinations, including pneumococcal vaccinations, at Baby Bonus approved medical institutions. The Baby Bonus and CDA can also be used to pay for siblings’ vaccination.

Further details can be found on MOH’s Press Release.
