Schools' Financial Literacy Programme
More school kids will get a headstart on financial education as NIE trains more teachers to impart skills on budgeting, savings and investing concepts to our young. See ST breaking news.
This is a good thing. Other than the hard sciences and humanities subjects studied, a practical skill such as financial literacy can shape a young person's life for the better. Knowing how to manage one's money from simple budgeting (starting with daily/weekly pocket money) and developing a savings habit (think delayed gratification and discipline towards a financial goal); these will provide the children a mental toolbox to evaluate needs vs wants and hopefully inculcate healthy values from an early stage.
Going further, perhaps the concepts of compounding interest and time value of money could even excite our young on entrepreneurship and produce the next Warren Buffett of Singapore!
