AIA HealthShield Gold Max

AIA recently launched HealthShield Gold Max in mid June 2011.

This new Medisave-approved integrated Shield plan is meant to replace its Healthshield Gold Elite plan. Both cater to those seeking private hospitalization healthcare, including pre- and post- admission treatment up to 100 days.

A slight variation to the Congenital Abnormalities benefit for Child of Female Insured (from biological birth) is the Gold Max provides additional cover of up to $20k per lifetime. However, this is capped at $5k per child. Hence, in the unfortunate unlikelihood of having 4 children with such conditions, it may provide scant relief.

More importantly, Living Donor Organ Transplant benefit is now included. This makes it on par with other similar plans e.g. NTUC Enhanced Incomeshield (EIS), GE Supremehealth.

Though max claim limit per policy year is 500k, as compared to say NTUC EIS Preferred and Aviva MyShield Plan 1 at 650k, it still is rather sufficient at this point in time (in my own opinion).

Existing Gold Elite policyholders must note that there is NO automatic upgrade to Gold Max upon renewal of their current plans. Should they wish to do so, they have to upgrade with submission of forms and go through medical underwriting as per usual. For those in good health, I think it'd be a good idea to upgrade asap barring any unexpected changes to health.

And lastly, the Essential rider remains the same- key benefits are to cover the deductible and co-insurance 100% in full.
