AVIVA MyShield Enhancements

From July onwards, Aviva MyShield has introduced further enhancements.

1. Letter of Guarantee is extended to include private hospitals, on top of its list of government restructured hospitals. But the list of private hospitals is currently limited to those within the Parkway Shenton Group i.e. Mount Elizabeth, Gleneagles and Parkway East (formerly Eastshore) hospitals.

2. Annual limit of Plan 1 the plan pegged to private hospital care) has been raised from $500k to $650k.

3. Annual limit of Plan 2 (the plan pegged to government ward A) has been raised from $300k to $400k.

4. Interim Cover up to $30,000 in accident medical reimbursement
- this means the moment Aviva receives the applicant's forms, he/she is covered up to $30k in medical reimbursement for inpatient care in government/restructured hospital if due to an accident. This interim cover lasts up to max of 60days from date the application is received.

Why is this different?
In typical cases, a Medisave-approved integrated Shield plan is processed for medical underwriting in the first half of the month. In the second half, CPF deductions are made to pay premium to the insurer. Only then is the policy effected from the 1st of the next month. Therefore, if one misses the deadline for medical underwriting in the 1st half of the month, or say there are additional medical underwriting requirements (e.g. submission of medical reports/lab test results), it is likely the medical policy inception date will be delayed. Which means there is nil coverage during the entire period (i'm excluding the group medical care from those in employment and assuming no personal accident plans). In such scenario, the above benefit offered by Aviva gives some peace of mind.
