Upgrading to AIA HealthShield Gold Max
Following the earlier post on AIA HealthShield Gold Max, here are some clarifications regarding queries received:
a. For those who are upgrading from existing AIA Shield plans, does the applicant/insured need to go through medical underwriting as per fresh submission?
- Yes, the upgrade request will be subject to medical underwriting. If there are any condition/exclusions imposed, it will NOT affect the benefits of the existing plan. Rather, it'll only apply to the benefits of the upgraded plan.
b. If client is midway through Gold Elite policy year, will client just pay premium difference for the upgrade? Or will the procedure be refund of pro-rated premium for Gold Elite (and Elite Essential) and deduction of new premiums for Gold Max (and Max Essential)?
- The pro-rated premium difference for both the main plan and Essential rider will be payable by cash. This will be communicated via a memo so client need not pay upfront when submitting the upgrade documents. Subsequently, CPF Medisave deduction will resume on the next renewal and it will be based on the Gold Max premium.
So, those currently on Gold Elite plans (pegged to costs of medical care in private hospitals), they will continue to be renewed on their existing plans without added benefits of Living Donor Organ Transplant and the increased cover on Congenital Abnormalities.
